The Gauteng Department of Health is hiring five (5) Food Service Aids to support kitchen operations at Helen Joseph Tertiary Hospital.  Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare, dish up, and serve meals for patients, including those on therapeutic diets.
  •  Ensuring a sterile environment by washing crockery, cutlery, pots, pans, and all kitchen equipment. Performing general cleaning tasks, including floors, drains, and waste areas.
  • Unpacking and correctly storing provisions in fridges and freezers, as well as assisting with cleaning these storage areas.
  • Taking out dustbins, managing waste disposal, and ensuring bins are cleaned to maintain hygiene standards.
  • Willingness to work shifts, including night duty, weekends, and public holidays as per the operational roster.
  • Adhering to the Batho Pele principles, the Public Service Code of Ethics, and all relevant health and safety regulations.

 Minimum Requirements

  • Education: ABET Level 4 or equivalent qualification.
  • Knowledge: Basic understanding of hygiene, safety, and food service practices. Knowledge of cooking will be a distinct advantage.
  • Language Skills: Must be able to read and write competently.
  • Physical Fitness: Ability to perform work of a physical nature, including standing for long periods and handling heavy equipment.
  • Availability: Must be willing and available to work shifts, weekends, and public holidays.
  • Interpersonal Skills: A strong team player with excellent communication skills, high motivation, and the ability to work independently. Enthusiasm, assertiveness, and a good sense of humour are valued personal qualities.
  • Principles: Familiarity with the Batho Pele Principles and National Priorities.
